BODY, SOUL & SPIRIT

"The Story of the Treasure Chest"

*A Poetic Story

("Heart" and "Chest" are used interchangeably.)

I am empty inside.
Nothing special about me.
Every day is the same.
I have no life, you see.

For years, I've been broken;
never was of good use.
I'm worn and need repair.
Even my screws are loose.

That used to be me -
before I was made new.
My Maker grabbed a hold of this chest -
He knew what to do.

I believed in who He was,
and asked Him to come in.
He now lives inside my heart,
and took away my sin.

He had the key to my chest,
and found darkness and dirt.
When I opened up to Him,
He cleaned out all my hurt.

Then He hid a treasure
of great value and great worth -
not of gold or silver,
but of my new birth.

My heart is located in my chest.
Good things I store in me.
For where my treasure is,
there my heart will be.

He said no thief can steal;
it cannot rust or decay.
I hid His Word in my heart
so none can snatch away.

No longer am I empty,
for I am filled with treasure.
Exceeding, great riches
of the Kingdom for His pleasure.

When I am in need for oil,
His touch knows what's best.
He's the joy of my heart -
the Builder of this chest.

My Maker gives me power
to play song and melody.
I can do all things -
even a light shines in me!

Like spirit, soul, and body,
my body is outside my chest.
My soul needs renewing.
My spirit is my best!

Daily, I need wiping
to rid of dust and smears.
If I don't restore my soul,
I'll return to "old thinking years."

I have a secret compartment
of wealth kept inside.
My soul can be seen.
But my spirit I hide.

My Builder and I are one.
I in Him and He in me.
We are joined together
in perfect unity.

I cannot explain My Maker
and how mysterious this can be,
but I know I am different,
and not ordinary.

Inside me is a mirror -
a reflection of My Creator.
This is who I am in Him.
Soul and outer catch up later.

For those two will transform.
Yet, my spirit is brand new.
Outside, I look the same,
but I'm worth a lot - it's true!

He made me come alive
when I asked Jesus in my heart.
Yes, that's His Name...
Oh, how great thou art!

Hidden in this chest
dwells a Treasure none can see.
And deep inside, I'm sealed -
because Christ lives in me.

NOTE FROM POET:

*We are spirits, we have a soul, and we live in a body.

As born-again Christians, our spirits have been regenerated, and are united with God's Holy Spirit.  God dwells in us.

Our struggle is our souls - our mind, will, and emotions (our personality).

We must renew our minds, daily, to think how God wants us to think, thus, practicing (living out) the principles of the Bible; otherwise, our minds will naturally turn carnal (negative), and our lives will not be God's best for us.

Wherever our mind goes, our body follows.  We need an "earth suit" to live here, and it simply follows who's in control - the Spirit (united with our spirits) OR our souls (our unrenewed mind).  But if we renew our minds (souls) in God's Word, and train it to become in agreement with God's Word and God's Holy Spirit in us, then we become powerful vessels, useful for God, as we function in this world through our "earth suits," glorifying Him, being a bright light in a dark world for all to see.
